IPv6 Headers

Training Format: e-Topic
Course Code: NET122

Description
Internet Protocol version 6 (IPv6) is designed to replace IPv4 in the public Internet and in private networks. While the basic functions of IPv6 are similar to IPv4, it is a very different protocol. This e-Topic looks at the IPv6 header and compares it with IPv4, explaining which fields are no longer included, which have been modified, and which are new. It also explains Extension Headers, which are new with IPv6, carrying layer 3 information in a separate header. Finally, other unique aspects of packet processing with IPv6 are described, including sending Jumbograms and handling checksums.
