Description

Deployments of IP multicast have grown considerably in recent years as video service providers use IPTV to distribute video throughout their networks. This course provides an overview of IP multicast with an emphasis on its use in IPTV implementations. Multicast network protocols are reviewed and the various modes of Protocol Independent Multicast are discussed. We also examine the Internet Group Management Protocol and identify the relative benefits of IGMPv3 versus IGMPv2 for IPTV implementations.
