Description
After presenting a basic refresher on traditional circuit switching, its signaling fabric, Signaling System 7 (SS7), and an overview of circuit to packet migration, this course provides a solid review of market drivers resulting in the significant growth in softswitches. Softswitches are generally employed to allow traditional circuit switched networks to migrate to or interconnect with Voice over IP networks. However, softswitches have a variety of capabilities and are deployed in different network architectures. This course introduces and defines the Softswitch architecture, basic elements comprising a Softswitch, how they can be configured, and deployment challenges. The functions of a softswitch are explained without getting into technical details of implementation.
